Zara DuBoyce explores the ideas of memory and spirituality with reference to her own family, using lighting to recall sacred spaces and audiences’ associations with them. The challenge of this piece was to use light to imply sacredness, connections with ancestry, and the quietude of reflection and prayer, without relying on references to any particular religious tradition.
